It's only been 3 months. Not too bad seeing how I don't post stuff...
Summers done. Old news. Halfway through first tri. Party.
So it's a Sunday night of a three day weekend, of quite the weekend. My thoughts:
Thursday: Aspirin paper turned in. Hoping for a good grade. Watched the volleyball game. We won, good job warriors. After game. Stuff.
Friday: Morning study session for calculus. 15 of the 2 hours was spent doing homework. My work ethic needs improvement. Played at the football game. We won, good job warriors. After game. Dance. My opinion on dance. Stunk. Bunch of band kids playing with balloons. Party. Our funds from the dance: Next to nothing. Damn. After the dance, stuff.
Saturday: Slept lots, then delayed homework long enough to hang with Jacob and go play tennis. Beat Jacob in a tiebreaker. Epic victory. After tennis, watched Beaver soccer game. We won, good job beavers. After the game. Nothing.
Sunday: Cheered dad in his duatholon. Met his goal, good job dad. Ate food. Delayed homework long enough to go to a calculus study session with Mrs. Moade and class at the Beanery. Did lots of homework. Success. After the study session, stuff, like writing this.
Really though, an all in all good weekend. Busy, yet relaxing. My emotions are very content and at a level of cheer and content and joy that very little could bring me down (keeping it real). School has been going great. All to fast. I've been enjoying all of my classes. There is very few times when I've been unhappy with classes. More and more I find that of those times, they mainly come in band and jazz band. Reality check for those who've sugar coated it:
We suck.
We are not in any shape to win state, or get top 5. Valco. No prob, but I'm not going to settle with that, and to get 85's from judges is not within our reach, even on our best days. Sorry guys, but our sections are actually going to need to learn the music. Couldn't believe the playing test. Mistakes with dynamics, accents. Fine. We can fix that easy. Mistakes in rhythms. Fine, depends on the difficulty. We can fix that. Mistakes in notes, pushing it. Mistakes in "I can't play my instrument well and I'm just here to talk with my section". Heads will roll.
Think about it. We are halfway through the trimester, playing the same music we have been for weeks, and not all of us can pass a simple playing test that "wasn't" known of for a week.
I'm not pleased.
How will we handle sight-reading? Can we handle sight-reading? As a band? As a section?
Johnson can and will teach us. He shouldn't have to babysit us. Get on in your section, tell them to get serious. Johnson shouldn't need to say anything along the lines of "stop talking". We can get a nice special-ED teacher for each section to say "no, don't play with your stand", "don't write on your neighbor", and "don't tease the clarinets".
I'm hoping we have enough self-control and maturity to not giggle at wrong notes and poke one another.
Jazz band needs work. Trumpets will slaughter us. They'll improve if the rest of us improve.
Not much else to say about that. All in all, more practice.
READ THIS: If you are in jazz band, and aren't in music theory, I would recommend seeing if you can get in, or work something out.
I'm very pumped for the class. Looks like a great chance to learn bunches.
If you need help with stuff in it, feel free to talk to me. I'm very comfortable with everything we've covered so far, so I can lend a hand if Johnson's busy or out of reach.
Apart from that, liking school. Soccer isn't bad either, undefeated with only one tie with Central. We're gonna bring it to them at our place. Newport is tomorrow, looking for a good amount of playing time and a rough match.
Stay healthy everybody, the swine flu is well upon us. I know that there have been students diagnosed with it.
Checking out.

I'm not going on the trip, but Dana is. She had a play practice though, so Andrew, Conlin and I took shifts while she was gone.
